Two Hindu Majors from Thar and Badin promoted as Lt Colonels in Pakistan Army

MITHI: Two Hindu Majors from Badin and Tharparkar districts have been promoted as Lieutenant Colonels of the Pakistan Army.

Dr Anil Kumar Lohana, who hails from Tando Bago town of Badin district and Dr Kelash Kumar from Tharparkar have been elevated to the same rank.

Dr Anil and Kelash Kumar have become the first Hindu officers of the Pakistan Army to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonels. Dr Anil is from Badin district who was appointed as the captain during General Pervez Musharraf regime while Dr Kumar, who hails from Tharparkar district of Sindh province, had joined Pakistan Army later six months in the medical corpse.

Dr Anil and Dr Kelash did their MBBS from LUHMS Jamshoro, Hyderabad and were later commissioned in the Pakistan army in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Before their elevation as Majors, they served as Captains in the medical corps after their appointments. Dr Anil Kumar was born in 1982 in the house of Tulsi Das Lohano, the middle class from Tando Bago town of Badin, district who had first studied in the government schools. He completed his early education from the historical Mir Ghulam Mohammad Khan Talpur High School in Tando Bago and then proceeded to Muslim College in Hyderabad for his intermediate.

His brothers including Raja, Darpan Kumar and others talking to this reporter said that from very childhood their brother had dreamed of becoming an Army Officer. ” It was very unfortunate that our father Tulsi Das could not live long and see him in army uniform and died in 2005″ they lamented.

Mr Kelash Kumar, who is son of a retired primary school teacher, Bhano Mal Meghwar from Chelhar area of Tharparkar was also born in 1981. He got his primary and middle education from Nauhoto, the historical place of the desert district and then did matriculation from the government high school in Mithi town before going to Hyderabad for further studies.

Mr Ganga Ram Meghwar , the elder brother of Kelash, who is himself a government officer, talking to this reporter said that they belonged to a lower middle class Hindu family but his father educated all his five sons. He said that his entire family, the people of his community and all Tharis and Pakistanis people were happy about his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Here it may be mentioned that media outlets without getting confirmed the story of the promotion of both Hindu officers only relied on some tweets by some people from Tharparkar and reported about the promotion of Dr Kelash Meghwar but did not mention Dr Anil, who also joined Pakistan Army six months before Mr Kelash and was also promoted to same position in Pakistan Army recently.
