Washington: President Donald Trump’s approval score has reached 44%, as fewer Americans are now worried about a possible recession and the handling of the economy.
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows increasing support for how it handles the economy.
The two-day poll showed that 44% of respondents approved the performance of the Republican leader, from 42% in a previous Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted on April 25-27. The poll had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
The approval of Trump’s financial management increased to 39% from 36%.
Trump began his term with a 47% approval score and saw his popularity hit lower, as the Americans were worried about a series of trade wars that started taking office on January 20th.
Trump’s moves to increase invoices at historical levels in major commercial partners, mainly China, fueled the reduction of the stock market, as many economists predicted that the recession was validated.
In recent weeks, Trump has relaxed in his most intense commercial actions and announced Monday morning that he has reduced invoices in China. The S&P 500 Benchmark stock index is about 17% of the lowest closure of Trump’s second administration, soon hit after the revelation of sweeping invoices.
Among the public, concerns about recession have also relaxed, but remain high.
About 69% of respondents in the new poll said they were concerned about a recession, from 76% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll held on April 16-21. The share that was concerned about the stock market decreased to 60% from 67%.
Trump said the responsibility for the country’s financial problems should fall to former President Joe Biden, his democratic predecessor. Inflation increased during Biden’s presidency in the midst of the global economic chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it tends to the end of its presidency. The annual price inflation was cooled in April, the work department said on Tuesday, although economists continue to warn that Trump’s commercial actions are likely to boost prices later in the year.
In a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 59% of respondents said it would be Trump’s mistake if the economy falls into a recession this year, compared to the 37% who said it would be Biden’s mistake.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted online at national level, examined 1,163 people.
