Trump was cleared by court to apply training cuts

A divided Supreme Court of the United States gave US President Donald Trump the green light on Monday to continue disassembling the Department of Education.

The Court of Appeal, with a non -signed order, uploaded a stay placed by a federal regional judge for mass layoffs in the Department.

The three liberal judges of the nine member disagree.

Trump promised during his campaign at the White House to eliminate the training department, created by a Congress act in 1979 and moved in March to reduce his workforce by almost half.

Trump ordered Education Minister Linda McMahon to “get out of a job”.

About 20 states joined teachers’ unions to challenge the move in court, arguing that the Republican president was breaking the principle of separation of powers by violating the privileges of Congress.

In May, Regional Judge Myong Joun ordered the restoration of hundreds of employees of the Department of Education.

The Supreme Court raised the judge’s order without explanation, a few days after another ruling that cleared the way for Trump to carry out mass fires of federal workers in other government departments.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in a disagreement with judges Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson, told the education decision that “only Congress has the power to abolish the department”.

“The majority is either deliberately blind to the consequences of the decision or the naive, but the threat to separate powers from our Constitution is serious,” Sotomayor said.

Traditionally, the federal government played a limited role in US education, with only 13 % of funding for primary and secondary schools coming from federal funds, the rest are funded by states and local communities.

However, federal funding is invaluable for low -income schools and students with disabilities. And the federal government was essential for the imposition of basic civil rights protection for students.

After returning to the White House in January, Trump called on federal services to prepare plans to reduce the workforce as part of the wider efforts of the Doge Department – previously led by Elon Musk – to reduce the government.

Trump has moved to the fire of thousands of government officials and Slash programs – aiming at diversity initiatives and abolition of the USAID Humanitarian Aid Department and others.
