US President Donald Trump’s decision to hit the “anti-American” Nations BRICS-including China and India-with an additional 10 % commercial invoice, put on the last day of the top of the block in Rio de Janeiro Monday.
Trump threatened the grouping of 11 nations-which includes some of the fastest emerging economies in the world-late Sunday after warning his “prying”, devastating and illegal invoices.
“Any country is in line with BRICS anti-American policies, an additional 10%invoice will be charged,” Trump writes in social media.
BRICS members represent about half of the world population and 40 % of world economic production.
Members of China, Russia and South Africa responded coolly to Trump’s latest oral barrier, insisting that the bloc does not seek to confront Washington.

But the left -wing Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was less diplomatic.
“We are dominant nations,” Lula said. “We don’t want an emperor.”
It was designed two decades ago as a forum for rapidly growing economies, BRICS has been seen as an effort driven by Chinese to limit global influence.
But it is a rapidly growing and often divergent grouping – bringing in touch with enemies such as Iran and Russia, with some of Washington’s nearest allies to Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Some US allies inside the block have tried to alleviate Trump’s criticism, not mentioning him or the United States by the name in the Summit statement.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, China Prime Minister Li Qiang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, President of South Africa Agrani, Agrani Prime Minister Abuy Abuy, Agrani Prime Minister, Abuy of Abuy, Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Abas Araghchi set a family photo during the BRICS Co. July 2025.
Saudi Arabia-one of the largest US-based US-based buyers even states its foreign minister from Sunday’s talks and a BRICS group photo, seemingly to avoid Washington’s wrath.
In April, Trump threatened a series of punitive duties for dozens of economies before supporting a strong market sales.
It is now threatening to impose unilateral contributions on commercial partners, unless they reach the “agreements” until August 1st, with BRICS nations seeming to face higher invoices than planned.
It may not have helped that BRICS leaders have also condemned the recent US and Israeli bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities – a demonstration of solidarity with Iran’s colleague.
Beijing on Monday insisted that BRICS was not seeking a confrontation with the United States.
“China has repeatedly stated its position that trade and tariff wars have no winners and protectionism does not provide any promotion,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said.
Beijing also defended the block as “an important platform for cooperation between emerging markets and developing countries”.

It supports the opening, integration and cooperation with a profitable victory, “Mao said.
“It is not involved in the camp confrontation and does not aim for any country,” he added.
The Kremlin repeated this message with spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying Russian media that the BRICS collaboration was “never and will never be directed against third countries”.
The political punch of this year’s summit has been exhausted by the absence of China’s Xi Jinping, who failed the meeting for the first time in his 12 years as president.
The Chinese leader is not the only remarkable absence. Russian President Vladimir Putin, accused of war crimes in Ukraine, also chose to stay away, participating through a video link.
He told the counterparts that BRICS had become a key player in world governance.
