- Sans US Sushidy, Canada “ceases to be a viable country”: Trump
- “Canada should become our favorite 51st situation,” he adds.
- Trump signed 25% invoices in neighboring Mexico and Canada.
Palm Beach: President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Americans may feel “pain” from his invoices to key trading partners, but claimed that it would be “worth the price” to secure US interests.
On Saturday, Trump finally signed a 25% endangered invoices for neighboring Mexico and Canada – despite sharing a free trade pair – and hit China with a 10% invoice except for the already established contributions.
The president had vowed before his inauguration to take such action, arguing that the countries did not do enough to stop the illegal migration and trafficking of the deadly opioid fentanyl in the United States.
With the imposition of invoices, which are about to begin on Tuesday, Trump cited the international act for the economic forces of emergency.
The move has caused immediate retaliation vows from all three countries, while analysts warned that the subsequent trade war would probably slow down US growth and increase consumer prices in the short term.
“Will there be any pain? Yes, maybe (and maybe not!)” Trump wrote on Sunday morning on all lids on the social media platform.
“But we will make America again great, and everything will be worth the price to be paid.”
The president and his advisers had resisted in the past, recognizing that invoices could raise US consumer prices, as the frustration for the increasing cost was considered an important factor in his November electoral victory over the Democratic Kamala Harris.
Apparently, seeking to reduce a rise in fuel and electricity prices, Trump put the contribution to Canada’s energy imports to just 10%.
In a separate position of social media, Trump again called on America’s northern neighbor to become an American state, increasing tensions further with one of the nearest allies in his country.
While claiming that the United States is paying “hundreds of billions of dollars to subsidize Canada,” Trump added, “without this mass subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable country.”
“As a result, Canada should become our favorite 51st state,” he wrote to Truth Social, arguing that the move would bring “much lower taxes and much better military protection for the people of Canada – and without invoices!”
The US Census Office reported the country’s trade deficit 2024 in goods with Canada up to $ 55 billion.
‘Ripoff of America’
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged on Saturday that his country would return with 25% of his own contributions to selected US goods worth 155 billion dollars ($ 106.6 billion US), with a first round on Tuesday, followed by a second one in three Weeks.
Leaders of several Canadian provinces have already announced retalies, such as the immediate discontinuation of US alcohol markets.
Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum said in the meantime that she had directed her finance minister to “implement Plan B”, which still includes unspecified “pricing and non -tariff measures”.
On Friday, the right -wing Council of the Wall Street Journal newspaper threw Trump’s invoices in a piece entitled “The most stupid trade war in history”, saying that “US consumers will feel the highest cost bite for some goods”.
Trump hit Sunday, saying: “Tariff Lobby”, led by globalized, and always wrong, Wall Street Journal, works hard to justify […] America’s long ripoff decades, both in terms of trade, crime and poisonous drugs. “
Commercial deficits have long been removed as an indication of other countries exploiting the Americans.
“These days are over!” said Trump, who started his Sunday with a visit to one of her golf courses in Florida.
It has also repeatedly threatened trade actions against the European Union. A bloc spokesman swore on Sunday that he would “firmly respond to any commercial partner imposing unjustly or arbitrary invoices”.
