  • Trump was scheduled to watch Quad Summit in India earlier.
  • Tensions between Trump, modi deepen after June’s phone call.
  • Modi shifted the focus to alternative collaborations.

US President Donald Trump threw a plan to visit India later this year, as trade friction and political disputes housing relations between Washington and New Delhi, The New York Times He mentioned, citing people who are familiar with the subject.

Growth comes after months of intensity escalation, with both sides struggling to make progress in commercial talks. In recent weeks, the United States has doubled Indian invoices at a high rate of 50% compared to the continued imports of Russian oil in India.

A 25% invoice imposed due to India’s Russian oil markets was added to the previous 25% of Trump in many imports from the nation of South Asia. It gets the total duties of 50% for goods as varied as clothing, precious gems and jewelry, footwear, sportswear, furniture and chemicals – among the highest US and about the same level as Brazil and China.

According to people who were familiar with the issue, Trump had previously assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would attend a four -member Summit in India later this year. However, the visit has now been removed from its program.

The cancellation reflects a sharp recession in the relationship between the two leaders, who once publicly celebrate their cooperation at massive rallies in Houston and Gujarat.

Tensions between Trump and Modi deepen after a June telephone call, during which the US president claimed a personal credit to restore military hostilities between India and Pakistan earlier this year.

Trump said that Pakistan was forced to appoint him for the Nobel Peace Prize and implied that India should consider the possibility of doing the same. Modi rejected the claim, insisting that the ceasefire had been resolved directly between New Delhi and Islamabad without American mediation.

The disagreement coincided with the deterioration of the friction of trade. Indian officials hoped to complete a limited trade agreement to reduce duties pressure, but the talks collapsed in the midst of growing mistrust.

Washington’s measures have been upset by New Delhi, where Trump’s actions are increasingly regarded as a heavy hand. A senior India employee described the approach as “intimidation”.

Modi has since shifted focus on alternative collaborations. He arrived in China today to meet President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling India’s intention to balance ties as relationships with Washington Sour.

The White House argued that the two leaders maintain a “respected relationship” and remain in communication. However, the absence of US presidential visit is widely regarded as a failure for bilateral ties at a time when both nations face critical challenges of economic and security.
