Los Angeles:
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Los Angeles is “safe and healthy” after ordered the troops on the streets, but critics accused him of an authoritarian abuse and a judge is expected to review the legality of the developments.
Protests broke out last week in the second largest US city in aggressive new immigration raids aimed at immigrants in workplaces, courts and gathering places for workers looking for daily work.
Anger in Trump’s suppression and the use of masks of armed migratory agents, supported by uniform soldiers, spread to other cities. The national protests were designed for Saturday.
Trump has repeatedly exaggerated the scale of turmoil, which was largely peaceful, despite secluded collisions, vandalism and burning cars.
The Republican believed the arrival of troops to secure a quiet night in Los Angeles, where the mayor had ordered a night traffic ban.
Nearly 4,000 National Guard troops have been sent to Los Angeles, as well as 700 members of the US seafarers – an elite force trained to fight in foreign wars and only rarely developed in American soil.
“Our big National Guard, with a little help from the seafarers, put LA police able to do its job effectively,” Trump Social told Truth, adding that without the army the city “would be a scene of a crime as we haven’t seen for years.”
A federal judge in San Francisco was forced to hear arguments on whether the use of troops is constitutional, with California Governor Gavin Newsom claiming that the president “creates fear and terror”.
Newsom accused Trump of aiming for a “bullet” to destroy the US Republic and urged Americans “not to give”.
Trump said on Thursday that Newsom – considered as a candidate for the Democratic Presidential Candidate in 2028 – had “completely lost control of the situation” and should thank him for “saving the ass”.
Trump was elected in part to its promises last year to expel people entering the country illegally, then commit serious crimes.
But the suppression of immigration is much wider, with the aim of mostly Latin America immigrants who may have entered illegally, but form the backbone of agriculture, construction and other manual industries in many parts of the country.
