Trump Admin orders additional visa check for Harvard applicants

The US Foreign Ministry has ordered all its consular missions abroad to begin an additional examination of visa applicants who want to travel to Harvard University for any purpose, according to an internal cable that Reuters saw on Friday, in a move that extensively expanded by Donald.

On a cable dated May 30th and is sent to all diplomatic and consular positions of the US, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the immediate launch of “additional control of any non -migrant applicant for any purpose”.

These candidates may include prospective students, students, teachers, employees, contractors, guest speakers and tourists, the cable said.

The University of Harvard failed to maintain “a campus environment free from violence and anti -Semitism”, the cable said and that the enhanced control measures were intended to help consular officers identify the visa applicants with “anti -Semitic stories”.

While the United States has previously demanded an additional examination of visa applicants from specific countries, the implementation of such procedures against Harvard seems to be an unprecedented use of the visa procedure against a university in favor of administration.

Additional measures for Harvard candidates were first reported by Fox News, but the cable itself has not been mentioned before.

The Foreign Ministry does not comment on its internal documents or communications, a department spokesman said in an email when asked about the cable.

Trump’s administration launched a multi -level attack on the oldest and richest university of the nation, frozen billions of dollars in grants and other funding, proposing to terminate the tax exemption regime and open a survey about whether or not they discern themselves.

Trump claims that top US universities are a cradle of anti-American movements. In a dramatic escalation, his administration last week revoked Harvard’s ability to enroll foreign students, a move was later blocked by a federal judge.

Harvard argues that Trump’s administration contradicts that he refuses to join his demands to control the governance of the school, the curriculum and the ideology of the School and its students.

Private Social Media Accounts

The move is also part of the intensification of Trump’s migration immigration and follows Rubio’s mandate to stop planning new appointments for student visa and exchange candidates.

The leading American diplomat also said earlier this week that Washington will begin to recall Chinese students with links to the Chinese Communist Party and those studying in critical areas.

The application of this command will also serve as a “pilot for extensive examination and examination of visa applicants,” the cable adds, increasing the possibility of measures taken against Harvard and visa applicants used as a standard for other universities.

The mandate also directs consular officers to consider the possibility of questioning the applicant’s credibility if the person’s social media accounts are private and ordered to ask the applicant to determine their accounts to the public.

The cable commands consular officers to consider any information on the applicant who does not raise the level of unacceptable to ensure that the purpose of the applicant required by the trip is in accordance with the view they seek.

“If you are not personally and completely satisfied that the applicant, during his time in the United States, will participate in activities in accordance with the non -immigrant visa regime, you will need to deny the visa …” the cable said.

Such a recommendation would follow comments from Rubio in recent months, saying that he has personally recalled the views of hundreds, perhaps thousands of people, including students, because they were involved in activities that oppose US foreign policy priorities.

“If you come here to create problems, you will probably have a problem,” Rubio told reporters on April 7. “We’re not going to keep being stupid enough to let people in our country come here to tear things down.”
