Timothy Busfield, whose whereabouts were still unknown, handed himself over to police.
“Tim voluntarily appeared before New Mexico authorities after traveling across the country to address these false and deeply troubling allegations,” his attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, said in a statement obtained by People magazine.
Earlier on Jan. 13, the actor and director turned himself in to the Metro Detention Center, Gilbert Gallegos, Director of Communications for the Albuquerque Police Department, told the show.
Busfield, husband of Melissa Gilbert, faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct with two minor boys and one count of child abuse.
According to the arrest warrant, the alleged twin boy victims met Busfield at the shooting Fox series, The Cleanerafter Busfield joined as a director on season 2 (which aired in 2022).
“He is innocent and determined to clear his name,” Stein continued. “As reflected in the criminal complaint, after her son’s termination from the show, the boy’s mother vowed to get ‘revenge on Timothy Busfield.’ What followed appears to be a calculated attempt to build a case, driven by animus rather than fact, despite earlier investigations finding no evidence of wrongdoing.”
Busfield’s attorney also provided the report with a statement from Christina McGovern, the independent outside investigator retained by Warner Bros. Television to look into allegations of misconduct on set.
“I conducted an independent and thorough investigation of all allegations known to the studio at the time,” McGovern’s statement said.
“Warner Bros. gave me full discretion in my investigation. Based on the allegations and all the evidence gathered, including multiple witness statements, I found no corroborating evidence that Mr. Busfield engaged in inappropriate behavior or was ever alone with the twins on set.”
“The allegations made against Tim are completely false and we will fight this to the end until the truth prevails,” Stein added.
Busfield previously denied all allegations about him according to a video he received TMZ. The actor stated in the video that he “didn’t do anything wrong”.
“Hey everyone, this is Tim,” the video began. “I’m sure most of you who are watching this know that I was ordered to come to Albuquerque — I’m here now. I called Friday night, I had to get a lawyer. Saturday I got in the car, drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque. I’m going to face these lies. It’s horrible.”
“It’s all lies and I didn’t do anything to these little boys and I’m going to fight it,” Busfield continued. “I’ll fight it out with a big team and be acquitted, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies.”
“So hang on, and I hope to be out soon and back to work,” Busfield concluded. “I love everyone who supports me, thank you.”
