United States State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted growing concerns about a wave of hatred amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Miller’s remarks came during his weekly update on Friday when asked about the escalating hatred not only in the United States but around the world stemming from the conflict in the Middle East.
Miller acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, stating, “It’s absolutely concerning.” He echoed the sentiments expressed by the foreign minister, who has repeatedly highlighted the dangers of dehumanizing each other, particularly in the context of the Israel-Gaza conflict.
He pointed out that when people on either side of the conflict engage in dehumanizing behavior, it opens the way for actions that are detrimental to all parties involved.
Addressing the rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim sentiment, Miller underscored President Joe Biden’s condemnation of such acts and reaffirmed the State Department’s commitment to combating hate both domestically and internationally.
Responding to questions about the characterization of the conflict as a religious war or a territorial dispute, Miller stressed the need to avoid spreading hatred in any form. He emphasized the US government’s focus on quickly ending the conflict and seeking a sustainable solution that serves the interests of all parties involved, including Muslims, Jews, Christians, Israelis and neighboring countries.

“We are trying to put an end to this conflict as soon as possible and find a viable solution,” Miller asserted. “It is in the interest of all parties to see this conflict end and that is what we are trying to achieve.”
Commenting on the possibility of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Miller echoed the United States’ position, stating, “We strongly believe that a two-state solution is the way forward. While we recognize the enormous challenges and seemingly bleak outlook, we believe that, ultimately, as this conflict comes to an end—because it will—we must chart a course toward a two-state solution.”
He emphasized the importance of this approach by underscoring the ongoing security risks facing Israel and the imperative to strengthen relations with its neighbors.
Miller emphasized that finding a viable path to reconciliation with the Palestinian people aligns with Israel’s broader security interests, despite the significant difficulties involved. He reiterated the commitment of the United States to diligently pursue this goal.
