The risk of global recession rises as US invoices Shake Markets: Reuters Poll

The risk of global economic downturn has increased due to sweeping US invoices, according to a new Reuters poll with more than 300 economists.

The majority now believe that the global economy could shrink this year, referring to the weakening of business feelings and financial instability caused by President Donald Trump’s aggressive commercial policies.

Trump’s management imposed 10% invoices on all US imports and a sharp 145% invoice on Chinese goods, sending crusts through markets and undermining investor confidence.

Despite the temporary suspension of certain invoices, businesses remain cautious of the unpredictable policy.

“Planning for the next quarter is tough under these conditions, let alone predict five years ahead,” said James Rossiter, head of Global Macro Strategy on TD Securities.

Economists destroyed global growth forecasts for 2025 at 2.7%, from 3.0% in January.

The IMF offered a slightly more optimistic 2.8%. The forecasts for 28 of the 48 big economies were cut, with Mexico and Canada seeing the steepest degradations.

Over 60% of economists evaluated the risk of a 2025 global recession as “high” or “very high”. Analysts reported inflationary pressures from invoices, reduced trade and increasing uncertainty as key drivers of deceleration.

JP Morgan increased world recessions to 60%, from 40%. Goldman Sachs, Barclays and UBS also warned of significant financial risks if invoices remain.

HSBC has recorded purchases may already be prices for a possibility of a 40%recession.

While some economists believe that deceleration could push central banks to reduce interest rates, others warn that inflation caused by invoices can complicate monetary policy responses.

Federal Reserve is expected to make up to three interest rate cuts this year, depending on the evolving economic conditions.

Experts warn that even if invoices are lifted, the damage to worldwide trust could have constant results.
