The reason for the dismissal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq has been revealed

Former fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq have been dropped by the national team selection committee. Sources reveal that the duo have been accused of favoring under-performing players in the selection of the men’s team.

Other selectors objected to the inclusion of these players, but Wahab and Razzaq reportedly insisted on their selection. Additionally, Wahab Riaz has been criticized for failing to fulfill his responsibilities as a senior manager during tours.

According to reports from the coaches, he did not address the unprofessional behavior of Shaheen Shah Afridi and other players who violated discipline due to the presence of their families.

Wahab Riaz and team manager Mansoor Rana have also been accused of not following curfew periods.

Reports suggest that the board chairman has ordered action against those creating factions within the group.

Earlier in the day, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were officially kicked out by the Pakistan cricket selection board. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision early on Wednesday, citing the national team’s impressive performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament, failing to progress beyond the group stages, led the PCB to reassess its selection strategy. “It has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee,” the PCB said in a press release.

After Pakistan’s disappointing performance during the T20 World Cup, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi had stated that the national team will undergo major changes.

“I thought the team needed a little surgery to start winning games, but now it looks like we have to go for major surgery. It is very disappointing the way we lost to USA and now this loss to India. We have to start now looking at players beyond them in the squad at the moment,” he said.

He further added, “Why the team is not performing is something that everyone is asking. The World Cup is still going on. But obviously, we will sit down and see everything.”
