- Parliament confirms Anutin as PM that ends the power vacuum of the week.
- The prime minister receives the support of the people’s party, which holds the majority of seats.
- Apex Court due to sovereignty on Tuesday for Thaksin’s stay in the hospital.
The next Thai prime minister is committed to restoring his promise to lead the crushed temporary government to new polls.
Conservative tycoon Anutin Charnvirakul was confirmed by parliament on Friday, ending a weekly vacuum after the disappearance of his predecessor, Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The construction tycoon pushed together a coalition of opposition bloc to close Pheu Thai, the electoral vehicle of Patriarch Thaksin of the Shinawatra dynasty.
It has received the support of the People’s Party, which holds a large number of seats, provided that it dismantles parliament within four months for new elections.
“I will follow all the agreements,” he said on Friday outside the party headquarters.
“We have to restore the spirit of the ‘earth of smiles’ in our country during my short time to office,” he said, adding that he was known to dislike conflict.
Anutin turned to the unexpected flight of Thaksin from the kingdom on Friday night before voting – and days before a court case – intended for Dubai, where he said he would visit friends and seek medical care.
“There will be no favor, no prosecution and no revenge,” Anutin said.
The Supreme Court is going to dominate Tuesday in a case of the Thanksin hospital after returning from exile in August 2023, a verdict Some analysts say he could see him imprisoned.
Anutin’s right -wing Bhumjaithai party went to a coalition with Pheu Thai in 2023, but took out June over Paetongtarn’s supposed misconduct in a telephone leaks with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen.
Shinawatras has been a key axis of Thai politics for the last two decades, boxing with the overwhelming, over-stunning establishment that he considers them to be a threat to the traditional social class of the kingdom.
But they have faced a series of failures, including Paetongtarn’s removal last week.
Anutin has previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior and Minister of Health – but may be more famous for providing promise for cannabis in 2022.
His lifting to Premiership must still be approved by the King of Thailand to become official.
