Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, on Thursday announced a significant reduction in electricity bills for the month of April, Express News reported.
In a statement, Leghari disclosed a reduction of Rs 3.82 per unit in electricity bills for April. This move comes as a relief to households and businesses struggling with rising utility costs.
He noted that fuel price adjustments for the current month have been set at Rs 4.92 per unit, from Rs 7.06 per unit in the previous month, resulting in a reduction of Rs. 2.14 per unit in fuel prices.
Earlier adjustment was Rs 4.43 per unit, now reduced to Rs. 2.75 per unit, resulting in reduction in electricity tariffs by Rs 1.68 per unit.

Underscoring the government’s commitment to reduce the burden on consumers, the minister said the reduction comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives to reduce the problems of the people.
He also pointed out that NEPRA, the regulator, plays a critical role in setting the reference tariff for the entire year, setting the framework for subsequent adjustments.
The minister confirmed that NEPRA regularly reviews and fixes fuel price revisions to ensure transparency and fairness in electricity pricing.
Leghari stressed the importance of taking this difference to prevent the country’s deficit from increasing. NEPRA, the regulatory authority, determines the fuel price adjustment on a monthly basis.
Earlier, Leghari had given a deadline of April 23 to all Chairman, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to completely curb power theft.
Finding the current efforts to curb the menace of power robbery insufficient, the minister has initiated strict action against power thieves, the Electricity Department said in a statement on Monday. The data doesn’t match the actual damage from power theft, he said.
