France’s parliament on Monday removed the government of Prime Minister Francois Bayrou after just nine months in office, leaving President Emmanuel Macron to find a successor and sink the country into a new political crisis.
Bayrou, who was at work for just nine months, even blinded his allies, calling a vote of confidence to end a long -term budget for austerity, which provides for nearly 44 billion euros ($ 52 billion) to save.
Bayrou, the first prime minister in the history of modern France to be eliminated in a vote of confidence rather than a non -confidence vote, will resign on Tuesday morning, according to a person near the one who asked not to be named.

In a vote at the National Assembly, 364 MPs voted that they had no confidence in the government while only in 194 they were given their confidence. “According to Article 50 of the Constitution, the prime minister must submit the resignation of his government,” President Yael Braun-Pivet said.
Bayrou is the sixth prime minister under Macron since the 2017 election, but the fifth of 2022. Bayrou’s disappearance leaves the French leader of the state with a new domestic headache at a time leading diplomatic efforts to the Ukraine war.
But defending his decision to invite high risk of confidence, Bayrou said to the National Assembly: “The greatest risk was not to get one, to let things continue without changing … and to have businesses as usual.”
Describing his pile of debt as “life -threatening” for France, Bayrou said his government had submitted a plan so that the country would “get out of the relentless debt tide in a few years”.
“You have the power to overthrow the government” but not “to delete reality,” Bayrou told MPs on a doomed final bid to save his government before the vote.
Non -popular president
Macron is now facing one of the most critical decisions of his presidency – appoint a seventh prime minister to try to eliminate a compromise or call the SNAP election in an effort to have a more hospitable parliament.
There is no guarantee that the elections will lead to any improvement in the property of Macron’s center -right block in parliament.
And although the Socialist Party (PS) expressed the readiness to drive a new government, it is not clear if such administration could survive.
Heavyweight ministers of the cabinet, such as Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin, trust Macron, but is in danger of being voted on the left.
According to a poll by Odoxa-Backbone for Le Figaro, 64 % of the French want to resign from Macron rather than call a new prime minister, a move that has excluded.
It is forbidden to stand for a third term in 2027.
About 77 percent of people do not approve of his work, Macron’s worst score, according to an IFOP poll for daily ouest-France.

Le Pen
Along with political turmoil, France also faces social tensions.
A left -wing collective collection called “Block Everything” calls for a day of action on Wednesday and the unions called on workers to hit September 18th.
The 2027 presidential election remain open, with analysts predicting that the French far right will have the best chance of winning.
The triple presidential candidate for the National Rally Rally (RN) Marine Le Pen suffered a hit in March when a French court sentenced other party officials for a fraudulent job in parliament.
Le Pen was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were fined 100,000 euros ($ 117,000).
The decision also banned her from standing up for five years, which would give her ambition to participate in the 2027 vote, unless overturned.
However, a Paris court said on Monday that its appeal will be heard from January 13 to February 12, 2026, long before the election – it may resurrect its presidential hopes.
Claimed by its MPs, Le Pen urged Macron to invite the legislative elections, saying that possession of polls is not “an option but an obligation” and describing Bayrou’s administration as a “fantastic government”.
