Binance founder and cryptographic billionaire Changpeng Zhao was appointed a strategic adviser to Pakistan’s Crypto Council (PCC), the Finance Directorate announced on Monday, calling for a possible game for the ambitions of digital funding.
The appointment was confirmed in a press release after Zhao’s meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and other key stakeholders.
The meeting was chaired by Aurangzeb and attended top government officials. Zhao also met separately with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
“This is a milestone for Pakistan,” Aurangzeb said. “We are sending a clear message to the world: Pakistan is open for innovation. With Zhao on the boat, we accelerate our vision to make Pakistan a regional power to develop web3, digital funding and development.”
Zhao, who founded Binance – during the largest encryption exchange in the world – is expected to provide strategic guidance on regulation, infrastructure development, education and the wider adoption of digital assets throughout Pakistan.
“Pakistan is a country of 240 million people, over 60 % of whom are under the age of 30. The potential here is unlimited,” Zhao said.
Pakistan’s Crypto Council officially started last month to integrate blockchain technology and digital assets into the national economic landscape. In March, businessman Bilal Bin Saqib was appointed as head of the Minister of Finance on cryptographic issues.
Commenting on Zhao’s appointment, PCC CEO Bilal Bin Saqib said: “Pakistan opens its doors to the future of finances and better guide us on this trip by Zhao – a pioneer who built the largest encryption exchanging in the world.
According to the Department of Finance, Zhao will work closely with government agencies and the private sector to create a “compatible, comprehensive and worldwide competitive” cryptographic ecosystem in Pakistan.
