The campaign against polio targeting 45.4 m. Children are starting today

ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Business Center (NEOC) has announced that the National Polio Immunization Campaign will start today (Monday) in 159 areas of the country.

According to NEOC, more than 45.4 million children under the age of five will be administered to the oral polio.

In addition to the polio vaccine, children will also take vitamin A supplements to enhance their immunity.

The national campaign will take place from October 13th to October 19th, while in the southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the campaign will take place from October 20th to 23rd, NEOC said.

Over 400,000 health workers will go from door to door to ensure that each eligible child receives the vaccine. NEOC urged parents to ensure that all children under five are vaccinated against polio and that immunization routine lessons for children up to 15 months are completed in time.

The total number of polio cases in the country for 2025 has jumped to 29, with two cases reported on September 29 by Sindh.

Of the total 29 cases of polio mentioned at national level, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa culminates the list of 18 cases, Sindh Nine, while Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have each.

The campaign to eliminate polio is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to eliminate illness and protect each child from lifelong disability.

Pakistan is one of the two politicians around the world, along with Afghanistan. The country was close to eliminating the disease that causes 2021 after a significant decline in the number of cases, until the recent rise in cases.

Last year, the country reported a total of 74 cases of polio. Of these, 27 was from Balochistan, 23 by Sindh, 22 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and each of Punjab and Islamabad.

Polio is a paralyzed disease without treatment and the completion of the usual vaccination for all children under five years of age provides only high immunity against this terrible disease.
