Karachi: Lance Domm, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, expressed his disappointment on the first exits of both England and Pakistan from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but praised Pakistan’s efforts to organize a “fantastic tournament”.

In an exclusive interview with Geo NewsDomm shared his thoughts on the tournament, Cricket’s unifying power and his plans to explore the karachi during his term.

The ICC Champions Trophy, the first ICC event in Pakistan after 29 years, brought teams and fans from around the world to the country. However, the tournament saw frustrating performances from both Pakistan and England, which were eliminated early.

England, despite their exit, will play their final match against South Africa in Karachi.

Domm acknowledged his frustration over the first exits of his favorite teams. “I know, it’s a great shame. I was hoping for a Pakistani-England final. But unfortunately, it’s not going to happen,” he said.

Reflecting England’s performance, he added: “I think it’s a matter of confidence. I am sure that England and Pakistan will return and the teams that have won again.”

He also shared his experience to watch Pakistan-New Zealand’s fight in Karachi. “I was in Pakistan-New Zealand’s match. And it was an extremely guest event. The stadium was fantastic. The atmosphere was great. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go as we hoped,” he said.

Domm praised Pakistan for the spectacular organization of the tournament. He stressed that despite the results in the field, the event was successful. “Although the teams (Pakistan and England) do not do so well, I would like to congratulate Pakistan on organizing a fantastic tournament,” he said.

Underlining the role of sport to bring people together, Domm said: “Cricket’s culture is something special. We have a common passion, Pakistan and England, for Cricket. It is such a wonderful way to bring people together.”

He noted the companionship between fans from different countries, especially between Pakistan and England. “This is what I have really noticed for this tournament. Fans from Pakistan, from England mixing together, having a wonderful moment here in Karachi and other cities,” he added.

He also talked about his childhood memories to watch Pakistan’s legendary fast -paced bell, Wasim Akram dominates the England series. “You know. When I was a kid. I watched the cricket on television and my first memory is by wasim Akram that destroys the English cricket teams. It was fantastic,” he recalled with a smile.

When asked about Pakistan’s current cricket team, Domm recognized their recent matches, but remained optimistic. “Well, look, we also had some of them. Pakistan’s cricket team had some disappointing matches. I think they still are a lot of great players in the team. So, I think it’s just a matter of trust. A victory leads to other wins,” he said.

As a newly appointed Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Domm expressed his enthusiasm for exploring the city and strengthening trade and investment links between the United Kingdom and Pakistan. “One of my big focuses is commercial investment. We have a lot of commercial investments in Pakistan and the United Kingdom already $ 60 billion a year. We will try to increase it even further,” he said.

He also shared his enthusiasm for Karachi’s famous cuisine, though he admitted that bitterness was a challenge. “It’s a bit spicy for my usual taste. But do you know what? I will get used to it over time. I already had a great Karachi food during my time here, which is famous all over the world. The food is really spectacular, “he said with laughter.

A greedy sports fan, Domm, revealed his love for tennis and football, expressing his intention to participate in local sports activities during his stay in Karachi. “I hope to make half the Karachi marathon next year,” he said.
