Thailand, Cambodia to introduce unconditional cessation tonight

Thailand, Cambodia to introduce unconditional cessation tonight

Thailand and Cambodia will enter an unconditional cease that will begin at midnight on Monday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

“Both Cambodia and Thailand have reached a common understanding as follows: one, an immediate and unconditional cease with 24 hours of local time, midnight on July 28, 2025, tonight,” Anwar said after mediation talks in Malaysia.

Thailand and Cambodia began to discuss a ceasefire in their dispute on Monday, as the deadly skirmish dragged on a fifth day.

More than 200,000 people left the border, as the two are exchanged artillery, rockets and gunshots in the controversial area, which hosts a collection of ancient temples.

A series of motorways, including some sports American and Chinese flags, arrived at Seri Perdana, the official residence of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Monday afternoon.

A helicopter entered over the administrative capital as Prime Minister of Thailand Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met shortly after 0700 GMT.

Monday’s meeting comes after US President Donald Trump’s intervention, making a late weekend call to both Southeast Asian leaders, who said they had agreed to “process” a truce quickly.

Anwar, whose country is currently chairing, the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN), is also mediated, while also present officials from the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a Chinese delegation.

Prior to the talks, Thailand and Cambodia were negotiated fresh fire and accusations.

Phumtham said Bangkok did not believe that Pennch was “acting in good faith”.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense Maly Socheata said Monday was “the fifth day that Thailand invaded Cambodia with heavy weapons and the development of many troops”.
