NEW YORK:
Liverpool in front of Mohammed Salah on Saturday criticized UEFA’s tribute to the late Suleiman Al-Tobeid, known as the “Palestinian Pele”, following the European football administrative body failed to report the circumstances surrounding his death this week.
The Palestine Football Association said Al-Tobeid, 41, was killed by an Israeli strike aimed at citizens waiting for humanitarian aid in the South Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
In a brief position on the social media platform X, UEFA invited the former member of the National Team “a talent that gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest times”.
The lounge replied, “Can you tell us how he died, where and why?”
UEFA was not readily available to comment.
One of the biggest stars in the Premier League, 33 -year -old Egyptian Salah has previously supported the humanitarian aid to be allowed in Gaza in nearly two -year war.
PFA later published a statement on its Facebook page attributed to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, inviting Al-Tobeid “proof of joy that can bloom in people’s hearts despite difficulties.
“He gave his talent and dedication to the Gaza children and gave their dreams a hope of blooming despite the suffering,” the statement said.
“His death is a great loss for the world of football and for all those who recognize the power of sport to unite people.”
PFA said on Saturday that 325 players, coaches, managers, referees and members of the Board of Directors of the team in the Palestinian football community have died in the Israeli-Hamas clash since October 2023.
The war began after Gaza’s dominant Palestinian fighter team, Hamas carried out a cross -border attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
The subsequent Israeli air and soil campaign has leveled entire neighborhoods in Gaza, shifted most of the 2.3 million population and pushed the enclave to the brink of famine, according to the United Nations.
The UN says more than 1,000 people were killed near distribution areas and accompanies Gaza since the launch of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a US and Israeli aid distribution system in late May.
Uruguay striker Liverpool Nunez joins al-Hilal
Liverpool Uruguay Darwin Danes has joined Al-Hilal, Saudi Arabia by Premier League champions into a three-year deal, both clubs reported on Saturday.
The financial details of the transfer were not revealed, but the British media reported that the Saudis paid 53m euros ($ 61.69 million) plus additives that could receive the final price of up to 56.6 million pounds for $ 26.
“The Al-Hilal Club Company is pleased to announce the signature of Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez from Liverpool FC in a three-year contract,” the Saudi club said on their website.
“Nunez just joined the team during today’s training camp before the season in Germany,” Al Hilal added.
Nunez joined Liverpool in June 2022 by Benfica with an initial fee of 75m euros, but fought for consistency, with 40 goals and 26 assists in 143 games in all matches.
The striker was on the margins of the first team during a campaign that won the Liverpool title last season, starting only eight league matches and nets five times.
His departure will help fund Liverpool’s cost of about £ 300 million so far for the 2025-26 season.
They have already signed Germany Playmaker Florian Wirtz for a record pay of up to 116 million pounds and French forward Hugo Ekitike for 69 million plus additives.
Al-Hilal, under the former director of Inter Milan Simone Inzaghi, became the first Asian club to beat a Premier League in an official match when they beat Manchester City at the Club World Cup last month.
