Pakistan adopted a daily OGRA petroleum pricing mechanism on July 18, the same day diesel jumped Rs31 per litre. Aflatoon AI on what it means when a war in the Strait of Hormuz becomes a daily event at the petrol pump — and what the government gave up when it scrapped the fortnightly buffer.

KSE-100 Drops 2,300 Points as Fuel Price Shock and Middle East Escalation Weigh on Sentiment

Pakistan's benchmark KSE-100 index fell approximately 2,300 points in a sell-off session, settling at around 175,800 as investors reacted to the July 18 fuel price hike — petrol at Rs316.15, diesel at Rs354.35 — and the seventh consecutive night of US strikes on Iran raising fears of prolonged Middle East conflict. The rupee remained relatively stable against the dollar at around Rs279.

Diesel Surges Rs31 to Rs354 Per Litre, Petrol Up Rs5.44 to Rs316 in Pakistan’s July 18 Revision

Pakistan's petroleum prices were revised sharply upward on July 18 under the new daily OGRA pricing mechanism, with high-speed diesel rising Rs31.05 per litre to Rs354.35 — one of the largest single diesel revisions on record — and petrol increasing Rs5.44 to Rs316.15. The hike is driven by elevated global oil prices attributable to the ongoing US-Iran conflict and Strait of Hormuz disruptions. The revised prices are effective July 18 to July 20.

Petrol Surges Rs13.18 to Rs310.71 as Petroleum Levy Hits Record Rs80 Per Litre; Diesel Up Rs13.80

Pakistan's government raised petrol prices by Rs13.18 per litre effective July 11, pushing the retail price to Rs310.71 — the highest in the country's history — while high-speed diesel rose Rs13.80 to Rs323.30 and kerosene increased Rs11.19 to Rs242.33. The petroleum development levy, which the government increased to a record Rs80 per litre, accounts for the bulk of the jump. The hike reverses the Rs1.97 cut of July 4 and reflects the surge in global crude prices following the US-Iran ceasefire collapse.

Petrol Price Review Due Tonight; Analysts Expect No Change at Rs297.53 Despite Global Oil Volatility

Pakistan's Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority is set to announce revised petrol and diesel prices tonight under the government's weekly review mechanism, with analysts expecting prices to remain unchanged at Rs297.53 per litre for petrol and Rs309.50 for high-speed diesel. The US-Iran ceasefire collapse has created fresh volatility in global crude markets, but recent movements have not been significant enough to require an immediate domestic revision. The July 10 announcement will take effect from July 11.

Fuel prices are expected to drop significantly in May

Islamabad: The price of depot petrol may drop by Rs 13.40 per liter and high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 8.19 per liter for the next fortnight starting May 16, according to an estimate. The petrol premium is expected to be around $10.30 per barrel and $6.50 per barrel on HSD, while the exchange rate adjustment is expected to be 12 paise. However, there are still three days left for the announcement of the new prices. Global prices have retreated massively following the restoration of stability in the Middle East following the Iran-Israel missile attacks and the easing of tensions
