October rains of India can be a very good thing, threaten harvesting

India is expected to receive more than average rainfall in October, following rainfall above normal rainfall, a weather official said on Tuesday. Rainfalls above average in October could harm summer crops such as rice, cotton, soy, corn and pulses approaching the harvest. The country is likely to receive more than average rainfall more than 115% of the average of 50 years in October, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the Meteorological Department of India (IMD), said in a virtual news interview. India received 15% more than average rainfall in September, increasing the total surplus of the monsoon for June-September to 8%,
