Verstappen wins Japanese GP in Red Bull one-two

JAPAN: Triple world champion Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, leading team-mate Sergio Perez to a dominant one-two finish for Red Bull. Verstappen failed to finish in Australia a fortnight ago but was in control for the entire race at Suzuka after starting from pole to take his third win from four grands prix this season. The Dutchman finished 12.535 seconds ahead of Mexican Perez, who came home ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in dry, sunny conditions. Verstappen said “the crucial part was the start, to stay ahead”. “After that, the car just got better and better,”

Verstappen ‘very happy’ at Red Bull but could quit F1 in 2028

JAPAN: Triple world champion Max Verstappen reiterated on Thursday that he could leave Formula One when his Red Bull contract expires in 2028, but insisted he was “very happy” at the team. The Dutchman won the first two grands prix of the season but has endured weeks of off-track turmoil at the all-conquering Red Bull. He suggested in Saudi Arabia last month that he would consider leaving if the team parted company with longtime mentor Helmut Marko. He was followed by his father Josh, who claimed that Red Bull faced “breakup” if team boss Christian Horner stayed in place. Asked

A Red Bull employee filed a complaint against Horner with the FIA

LONDON: The female Red Bull employee at the center of allegations against Christian Horner has lodged a formal complaint with Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, the BBC reported on Saturday. Allegations of misconduct against the Red Bull team principal have overshadowed the opening weeks of the 2024 F1 season. Horner was cleared by an internal investigation carried out by Red Bull’s parent company last month. However, the saga did not end there as an anonymous email was sent to Formula 1 staff and media the following day containing alleged messages from Horner to a female member of the team.

Verstappen dominates Jeddah for another Red Bull one-two

Jeddah: Defending three-time world champion Max Verstappen consolidated his lead in this year’s embryonic Formula 1 title race with another emphatic victory on Saturday when he pipped Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Dutchman dominated from pole position to the checkered flag to finish 13.643 seconds ahead of Perez, who finished second despite being handed a five-second penalty for an unsafe release from a pit-stop. The pair finished 18.6 seconds clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, whose team-mate British teenager Oliver Bearman, at 18 Ferrari’s youngest driver and third youngest in F1 history, came

“Nobody bigger than the team,” says Red Bull boss Horner

Jeddah: Red Bull boss Christian Horner dismissed any suggestions of discord among his world champions on Saturday after Max Verstappen drove Sergio Perez home in a resounding one-two at the Saudi Grand Prix. Answering questions after another day of claims and counter-claims for the troubled champions, Horner said everyone in the 1,400-strong organization played a role in their successes. But he avoided giving full comment on the latest spats which had suggested senior adviser Helmut Marko was facing a possible suspension ahead of a pre-race meeting at the track after which he made it clear he would stay on. Red Bull will explode if Horner stays: Jos Verstappen

LONDON: Jos Verstappen, father of three-time reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, claimed the Red Bull team would “implode” if team boss Christian Horner, who was recently cleared of charges of “improper conduct” towards a female employee, remain at his job. “There is tension here as long as he (Horner) stays in place,” the former Dutch Formula 1 driver told Britain’s Daily Mail in Sakhir, hours after his son’s season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix triumph Saturday. “The team is in danger of falling apart. It cannot continue as it is. It will explode,” Verstappen said. “He’s playing the victim, when

Horner says ‘business as usual’ at Red Bull despite investigation

LONDON: Christian Horner has insisted it is “business as usual” at Red Bull but admitted the investigation into his conduct has proved a “distraction” ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 season. The Red Bull team principal faced eight hours of questioning at an internal hearing in London last week following allegations in the Dutch press that the 50-year-old Englishman had been accused of “inappropriate behaviour” by a female employee. Horner, married to former Spice Girls pop star Geri Halliwell, strongly denies the allegation but the matter may remain unresolved until the new campaign kicks off in Bahrain in just over

LAS VEGAS: After being a motor racing nomad, Daniel Ricciardo says returning to the Red Bull stable with Formula 1’s newest team, the now-renamed Visa Cash App RB, was like coming home. Ricciardo won seven races while at Red Bull from 2014 to 2018. Last year he joined the Red Bull-owned AlphaTauri team and is now seen as a possible replacement for Mexican Sergio Perez for world champion Max Verstappen in 2025. “Coming back to Red Bull and the family, I feel so much at home, so the truth is this is where I want to be,” Ricciardo told Reuters.

LONDON: Williams boss James Vowles issued a warning to Mercedes and Red Bull as he revealed on Monday that Alex Albon is under contract with the British team until the end of the 2025 season. Lewis Hamilton’s shock move from Mercedes to Ferrari for 2025 has sent the Formula 1 transfer market into overdrive, with Thai driver Albon tipped as a possible replacement for the seven-time world champion. Albon, 27, has also been linked with a return to Red Bull, with Sergio Perez out of contract at the end of the year. “Alex is signed with Williams until the end
