Syed Abul Fazal Rizvi, CEO of SECMC resigns due to personal issues

MITHI: Syed Abul Fazal Rizvi, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company on Tuesday tendered his resignation citing personal engagements.

Mr Mohsin Babbar, the spokesperson of the mining firm, in a brief press statement issued to the local media persons, said that Mr Rizvi tendered his resignation due to his personal pressing engagements which was accepted by the high-ups of the company.

“The replacement of the outgoing CEO is likely within the next few days” he added. Mr Rizvi in an interview with a private TV channel said that he had resigned from his post due to some personal matters and out rejected the rumours of any differences within the official circles of the mining company.

Here it may be recalled that Mr Rizvi was elevated to post of CEO after an abrupt resignation of Mr Shamsuddin Ahmed Sheikh, the dynamic personality, who had helped the mining company achieve the targets of both coal mining and power generation much before the stipulated time.

Mr Sheikh had resigned some three years back after developing serious differences with the high-ups of the Sindh government and the lawmakers from Tharparkar.

The lawmakers from Tharparkar including MPA Qasim Siraj Soomro, whose companies were given the contracts of the ‘flawed’ schemes, had conspired to force Mr Shiekh to tender his resignation at the time when the company was set to achieve the milestone.
