- The reshuffle triggered with the resignation of Rayner.
- Starmer sadly to lose “credible colleague.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer brought a new deputy and foreign and internal ministers on Friday to a sweeping reshuffle aimed at restoring his power following the resignation of Angela Rayner’s deputy.
Starmer moved Foreign Minister David Lammy to become deputy prime minister and replaced him with Interior Minister Yvette Cooper. It was, in turn, was replaced by Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood. Everything is faithful, reliable hands.
Following the reform of the Downing Street team last week to enhance his financial advice, a ministerial reshuffle was expected. Rayner’s departure meant that he was much deeper than he was widely predicted, forcing Starmer to draw a line under a week of speculation for his tax affairs.
Starmer could do little to protect Rayner after Britain’s independent adviser decided he had violated the ministerial code, failing to pay the right tax.
“Angela is a” big beast “and it is difficult to replace,” said one hard -working legislator, adding that the three new appointments were “healthy” if not too exciting.
While Lammy took the place of the deputy prime minister, he was also forced to hand over the very sought -after role of the foreign minister and replace Mahmood to justice.
Cooper is one of the highest numbers of work after serving former Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Its appointment will be considered as a promotion of species following the supervision of the government’s often critical policy to tackle illegal immigration.
Mahmood, 44, is also regarded as a “safe pair of hands” at work, a politician who has no meaning who was not afraid to take bold action during the justice system.
The dedication is considered vital by Starmer, who has suffered the most ministerial resignations – outside of government reconstructions – by every prime minister early in their tenure in almost 50 years.
“There is a feeling at this time when they don’t know what they do and what they support,” Chris Hopkins, Director of Political Research at the Savanta Electoral Company, told Reuters.
Repentance
Rayner, 45, was the eighth and the most superior ministerial departure from Starmer’s team and the most detrimental, but the British leader offered his support when he was first accused of avoiding 40,000 pounds ($ 54,000).
Rayner apologized to Starmer in her resignation letter. “I deeply regret my decision not to look for additional specialized tax advice,” he said.
He also resigned as a minister and as deputy leader of the party, a position that Lammy will now be in poles.
The independent ministerial adviser has ruled that Rayner had violated the ministerial code – rules to ensure that the behavior of politicians fulfills public service standards – because he failed to take into account a warning within legal advice, which he said was based on her.
Rayner’s resignation has put more pressure on Starmer, with Nigel Farage’s labor reform in the United Kingdom in polls.
Starmer faces difficult government spending and tax choices as he seeks to repair the image of the left -wing party center, as he also fell under fire for accepting expensive items, including clothing and donor tickets before they were forced to fly down.
On the first day of the Reformation Party Conference in the Central English City of Birmingham, Farage caused his speech three hours to face Rayner’s resignation.
He said the labor government was in a “deep crisis” and the next elections could take place in 2027, implying that the work, which has a large majority and does not need to invite elections by 2029, may find it unable to rule.
“Despite the promises that this would be a young, different type of policy, it is so bad, if not worse than the one it went before,” he told the public in strong applause.
Rayner had recorded a new home in Hove’s southern English seaside resort as her primary residence after selling her share of her family home in northern England in a confidence created for one of her sons, who has lifelong disabilities.
Rayner said she had believed she should not pay the highest tax taxpayer when buying a second home. However, after media reports drew attention to the fact that they could have avoided £ 40,000, he received further legal advice and said he had been wrong and would pay the additional tax.
