Senate Commission discussions discussions SBP Chief’s monthly fee package

The governor of the Central Bank received a minimum of RS4 million in a monthly salary, extensive privileges and security and services from four employees, showed that the government was submitted to a Senate committee on Wednesday.

The Treasury presented the details of the salary and privileges received by the Pakistani State Bank (SBP) at a meeting of the Senate Finance Committee, which discusses the salaries of the leaders of the various regulatory authorities. However, the details were related to 2019 and 2023, so the Commission commissioned the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance to present the commander’s new salaries package at the next meeting.

According to the official archive, the monthly salary of the RS4 million was approved by the SBP Council at its meeting on October 6, 2023, while other terms and conditions were maintained themselves, such as the federal government for the last governor in 2019.

The permanent committee had opposed the powers of the SBP Board of Directors and the Pakistani Securities and Exchange Commission (SECP), which determine the salaries of their funds without approved the government. PML-n Anusha Rahman Senator has already announced that the amendments will be proposed to SBP and SECP laws to withdraw these powers of the Board of Directors.

The Commission was informed that the last government had set the monthly salary of Governor Reza Baqir to RS2.5 million other than other benefits in 2019. He said on Wednesday that Governor Jameel Ahmad had increased to RS4 million in October 2023, while other benefits were unacceptable. According to the package, the commander is entitled to a furnished and preserved state banking home or a rent allowance at home with bank furnishings and maintenance.

The commander is entitled to two fully preserved cars with a driver with a 600 -liter gasoline each. He is entitled to an 1800cc assembled car with the option of buying with accounting value. The commander is also entitled to a locally assembled 1600cc car, according to the official archive presented to the Commission. The commander is entitled to utilities in accordance with the actual costs of electricity, gas, water and fuel for the production of waiting to be provided by the SBP. It also has the right to return 75% of children’s total school fees.

The commander is entitled to a business allowance for business purposes. SBP provides telephone facilities – free landline and mobile phones – as well as internet access. For domestic aid, the commander is entitled to the return of the actual salary paid for up to four servants to RS18,000 per head with periodic revisions by the HR Commission, according to the 2019 package.

There is a 24 -hour security for the commander, according to the requirements, including the security guards and the security system. Complete medical facilities are also provided. The travel allowance is given in accordance with the SBP rules, which are approved by the Board of Directors. It has the right to relocation costs including airline ticket for Self & Family and Freight. The governor will receive benefits after retirement, as approved by the Board of Directors.

The commander’s salary and privileges are legally approved by the SBP Council and there is nothing illegal about it, said Senator PTI Mohsin Aziz. Article 14A of the SBP law states that in the determination of the commander’s remuneration, the average relative level of remuneration or remuneration prevailing in the Pakistan financial sector for comparable levels of appointment will be taken into account in order to allow the recruitment and preservation of specialized professionals.
