Karachi: Saad Habib Malik made an impressive return to win the 64th Pakistani Amateur Golf Championship, held on September 4-7 in the Defense Authority and Golf in Karachi.
The four -day tournament, with top golfers from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, brought valuable rankings of the world golf (WAGR) and finished in a finale.
Habib, who fell in 15th after a poor second round that included a costly mistake in the 8th hole, returned his way back with a fixed 73 in the third round.
Entering the last day in sixth place, he produced the best golf of his week-with six Birdies against two Bogeys to finish with a 4 -Der-Par 68. This brought his four-color set to 294 (+6), enough to Edge Sri Lanka’s Danushan Kanas Kumar from a single brain.
The increase in Habib was highlighted by back-to-back-to-back birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes, which sealed his victory. “His durability and temper under pressure were excellent,” said Golf Pakistan federation officials after the victory.
Kumar, who signed for a 75 to five Bogeys and two Birdies on the last day, settled for a second. Shahmeer Maajid was third on 297 (+9), while the third round the leader Numan Ilyas slipped in the fourth after competing with eight bogeys in his last round. Qasim Ali Khan rounded up the top five at 299 (+11).
In the women’s competition, Anya Faruq claimed the championship in front of Anna James Gil. The army won the men’s team title, while FGA occupied the crown of senior men. Pakistan A, represented by Saad Habib and Nauman Ilyas, won the international team and Jeyewardnene Trophy.
At the closing ceremony, the president of the Golf Federation Pakistan, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Qazi Muhammad Ikram presented the trophy to Habib, limiting its performance as “proud time for the Pakistan community”.
Saad, who also finished earlier this year at the Dalla Amateur Championship, has now consistently established himself among Pakistan’s most brilliant new talents.
