Fresh from his Dancing with the Stars with the win, Robert Irwin turns his focus back home — and to a project he says has been years in the making.
The 22-year-old conservationist shared on Instagram on Dec. 2 that he is “coming home” to work more closely with Australia Zoo’s Crocodile Hunter Lodge, which first opened in 2022.
As footage of the lodge played, Irwin explained, “It was the passion project we were working on.” He added that the guest house is meant to be “a way to really welcome everyone into our home.”
Irwin said the support he has received in the US has been “incredible”, noting how “really nice” it is to see more visitors traveling to the zoo.
“Honestly, we wanted to create something so that everyone has a proper home away from home when they visit us,” he said.
The lodge is located within Australia Zoo, offering guests views of the surrounding bushland and local wildlife. Developed in honor of Steve Irwin’s love of animals, the lodge reflects the designs once shared by Terri Irwin—the accommodations Steve envisioned to bring visitors closer to Australia’s wildlife.
Rustic cabins are set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens, with the Warrior Restaurant, an outdoor dining area and an infinity pool within a multi-species habitat.
Guests also receive free breakfast and unlimited zoo admission. Built with recycled materials, the shelter continues the Irwin family’s commitment to conservation.
In his video, Irwin highlighted the purpose behind the project: “You get fully immersed, here at the sanctuary, with everything the zoo has… giving back to wildlife conservation. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.”
He closed with a simple invitation: “I hope you will all come visit me at home sometime soon.”
