Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is supporting a 30 -day proposed cease in Ukraine, but has raised concerns about its details, calling for further discussions with the United States to clarify how the plan will work.
Putin made his first comments about the plan, which Ukraine agreed Tuesday in talks with the United States, saying it was “for” the proposed ceasefire, but that “there are shades” and had “serious questions” about how it would work.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned Putin’s comments as “very manipulating”, pointing to his nightlife that Putin “actually prepares the denial” of the proposal, but “is afraid to tell US President Donald Trump”.
The United States has asked Russia to agree on an unconditional ceasefire, but Putin raised several objections, saying: “I think we need to talk to our American colleagues … We may have a phone call with President Trump and discuss with him.”
Putin said the ceasefire was “the right idea”, but would benefit Ukraine at a point when its troops suffer from regression, while Russia quickly recorded the territory. He also questioned the way the ceasefire will be monitored along a front -line that measures thousands of kilometers.
Trump said Putin’s statement was “promising” but “not complete”.
“Many details of a final agreement have been really discussed. Now we will see if Russia is there and, if not, it will be a very frustrating moment for the world,” Trump said.
“I would love to meet with him or talk to him. But we have to overcome it quickly.”
Following a visit to a military headquarters in the Kursk area on Wednesday, the Russian president welcomed the progress of his troops against Ukraine, saying that “they are proceeding in almost all areas of the first line.
He said that “on the basis of how the situation is developing on the ground, we will agree on the next steps to end conflict and reaching agreements of recipients.”
As Trump pushes for a quick end to over a three -year conflict, Steve Witkoff’s envoy arrived in Moscow on Thursday to discuss the plan.
A leading Kremlin Assistant, Yuri Ushakov, said Witkoff would meet Putin when the president “gives the signal”, Russian news agencies said.
Russia has looted forward to the battlefield for over a year and claimed on Thursday that it has led Ukrainian forces from the city of Sudzha in Kursk, Russia.
Trump expressed optimism that his team could secure a ceasefire, despite the profits of the Moscow battle.
‘Long -term peace’
Putin said on Thursday: “We agree with proposals for cessation of hostilities, but on the basis of the fact that the pause would lead to long -term peace and face the main causes of the crisis.”
Russia has already excluded the acceptance of foreign peacekeeping forces in Ukraine as part of the ceasefire or the long -term security guarantee for Kiev.
This could be submitted to Ukraine’s request has made European allies to develop military “contests” in its territory as soon as the conflict is over to protect against future attacks by Russia.
“It is absolutely unacceptable to us that the army units of other states are placed in Ukraine under any flag,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zaharova said in information.
“Whether it is a foreign body or a military basis … All this would mean the involvement of these countries in an immediate armed conflict with our country.”
Battle for Kursk
Russia has, meanwhile, claimed rapid progress in the Kursk region-where Kiev began a cross-border attack last August and has kept ground since.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said it had “liberated” Sudzha along with two other settlements in the border area.
Sudzha, who hosts about 5,000 people before the battles, was the largest settlement seized by Kiev after began the shock of Russia.
The Kursk area was one of KIEB’s few negotiating chips in the exchange of land with Russia, which occupied around one fifth of Ukraine since it took Crimea in 2014 and began the full -scale attack in February 2022.
Ukraine is now in danger of losing its traction in the border area, after carrying tens of square kilometers (miles) last week, according to military bloggers.
In Ukraine, Sumy’s military administration told Facebook on Thursday that it had ordered the mandatory evacuation of eight villages near the Kursk border due to the “deterioration of business status in the region” and “stable bombings from Russia”.
Moscow’s rapid progress in the area came after the cessation and US security and security support for Ukraine, although analysts and officials warned not to make a direct link.
Washington said it had resumed its support for KIEB before talks with Moscow.
