Beijing: Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un will attend a military parade in Beijing, marking the first public appearance of the two leaders with President Xi Jinping in a collective opposition among western pressure.
No western leaders will be among the 26 foreign state leaders and the government who will attend the parade next week, with the exception of Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia, a Member State of the European Union, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
In the context of China’s growing military force during the “Victory” parade on September 3, the three leaders will promote a major demonstration of solidarity not only between China and the world south, but also with the sanctions that hit Russia and North Korea.
Russia, which counts Beijing as a strategic partner, has been abused by many rounds of Western sanctions imposed after its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with its economy on the brink of slipping in recession. Putin, requested by the International Criminal Court, recently traveled to China in 2024.
North Korea, an ally of the official Treaty of China, is under sanctions of the United Nations Security Council since 2006 for the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Kim recently visited China in January 2019.
Those who attend the parade marking Japan’s official surrender during World War II will include Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezashkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Woo-shik.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will also attend the parade.
The United Nations will be represented by Secretary General Li Junhua, who previously served in various skills at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, including time as a Chinese ambassador in Italy, San Marino and Myanmar.
On the day, President Xi Jinping will examine tens of thousands of troops at Tiananmen Square alongside foreign officials and senior Chinese leaders.
The highly choreographed parade, to be one of China’s older years, will present cutting -edge equipment such as fighter aircraft, rocket defense systems and ultrasonic weapons.
