Prince William made sure Kate Middleton knew she had his full attention at an important event as they greeted the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bin Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani.
The Prince and Princess of Wales met the Qatari Royals at their hotel and then accompanied them to the Horse Guards parade for the official ceremonial welcome before heading to Buckingham Palace.
Speaking about William and Kate’s body language at the high-profile event, a body language expert said the Prince made sure Kate felt safe.
Body Language Judy James noted William’s subtle gesture towards Kate, which she said was a deliberate move to show his wife that he has his “undivided attention” and is the “most important person” in his life.
Talking to me The Express, James said William placing his hand on Kate’s shoulder was a “ritual of priority” that sent a strong romantic signal.
“This hand-over-the-shoulder gesture is not primarily a sign of concern from William, but more to ensure that Kate and even the world knows that he has his undivided attention and sole focus, despite the royal state visit and all the officials they meet and hospitality.
“It’s a priority rite and one that will feel like a stroke both to her royal status and to her sense of being the most important person in his life,” he added.
The expert continued: “He offers it with another indicative, affirming gesture, which is the cephalococcus. As he speaks, he also lets her know that he has his full attention.
“He puts his wife first here and in royal terms that’s a rare ritual. Royal couples rarely pay much attention to each other in public, especially at state events like this.
“Which makes it an even more impressively romantic badge than the prince.”
