Prince William has just been called out for the way he treats charities, despite pocketing a huge sum every day from his Duchy of Cornwall fortune.
An insight into all this was shared by royal commentator Daniela Elser.
She weighed it all in one of her latest pieces on News.com.au.
In the piece he said, “A figure also doing the rounds this week was £1,000,000, or $1.9 million,” and “that’s how much William helped raise earlier this month by playing in a charity polo game , which was then shared between 11 charities.”
Assuming each charity had equal amounts, Ms. Elser rounded the number to $172,727 per charity.
“Or to put it another way, that’s less than what William and Kate earn in less than a day and a half,” which is $126,301 a day
In light of this, Ms Elsher went on to share some rather candid thoughts and claimed: “The point is that the Prince and Princess of Wales have spent the last couple of years very busy revamping the way they work – more getting their hands dirty in some of the biggest challenges facing the world, such as the climate crisis and mental health, less the opening of Sheffield Scout halls – to make the monarchy seem like an inexhaustible, useful outfit.”
“Charles and Queen Camilla also fall under this banner, all of them busy making Crown Inc look relevant and a net positive for British society.”
“But it becomes much more difficult to make that particular argument when we are reminded how amply the House of Windsor is rewarded for working to ensure its own survival,” he admitted.
All in all it is now apparent that “This latest accounting of the Duchy only highlights the much larger problem of opacity surrounding royal finances in general.”
And one of those issues is the “bespoke tax arrangements enjoyed by the Duchy of Cornwall”, and by extension Prince William.
However, “the King is nowhere near flawless here either.”
