Prince Harry’s friend and Invictus Games chief executive Dominic Reid has explained his departure from the organization after 10 years of service following the Duke’s award controversy.
Reid’s decision to bid farewell to the institution after 10 years has raised eyebrows as his resignation comes ahead of the winter games, which are said to have been his brainchild.
In a conversation with Sky News Australia, Author and broadcaster Esther Krakue pointed out that Reid did not stay “to see the winter games that were actually his idea”.
She said she may have decided to step down after Harry, Duke of Sussex, accepted the Pat Tillman ESPY Award for service despite heavy criticism.
However, Krakow noted that there may be more personal reasons behind his resignation, but claimed that his split with Harry has raised questions.
Announcing his resignation as chief executive of the charity, Reid said he was taking the decision to take on a new role in the role and take the “vital movement forward”.
“Once part of the Invictus family, you never leave,” he said while announcing his decision to step down.
Thanking his friend for 10 years of service, Prince Harry said in a statement: “I am extremely grateful to my friend, Dominic, whose dedication and leadership have transformed the Invictus Games from an aspirational idea into an internationally recognized movement.” .
Duke added that “Reid’s tireless efforts over the past decade have supported thousands of wounded, injured and ill servicemen and veterans through athletic rehabilitation, helping to demonstrate their unparalleled strength and contribution to society.”
“Thank you, Dominic, for a decade of uninterrupted service to the Invictus Games Foundation,” Harry continued. “What a journey it’s been and how lucky we are to work with such an incredible community of people. We pray that we don’t need the Games for another 10 years, but thanks to you, our team and our future CEO, we’ll be ready.”
