Prime Minister Shehbaz launches Maiden Polio Drive of 2025, swears to get rid of the country of illness

• PM expresses determination to eliminate polio at all costs.
• The national campaign against politics will last on February 3-9.
• Last year, Pakistan reported 77 cases of illness.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif began on Sunday a maiden national campaign against polio for 2025, managing polio drops in children under five years of age.

Facing the launch ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz confirmed the determination of his government to eliminate the disease caused by the country.

He said that the national polio vaccination movement would target millions of children in the country to save their future and health. The national campaign against politics will last from 3 to 9 February.

The prime minister hoped that the devoted teams would work day and night to eliminate the disease and reach the distant areas and villages, adding that these groups would successfully respond to huge national responsibility using their full actions.

The prime minister said unfortunately, during last year, a total of 77 cases of polio in the country were reported, which emerged as a huge challenge, in addition to the emergence of a setback.

This year, he mentioned only one case, he said, and expressed the determination to eliminate polio at all costs, with special teamwork and support from international partners.

The prime minister also expressed the hope that with international coordination and support, the illness of the neighboring brotherly country in Afghanistan would end.

He appreciated all international partners, including who, UNICEF, Bill Gates Foundation and Saudi Arabia’s brotherly country for their commitment and their efforts to the government in its efforts to eliminate polio.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Coordinator Dr. Mukhtar Bharat said they had pointed out the number of cases of polio reported last year and did not hide it from the international community.

He said that the positive result was felt with coordinated efforts from all quarters and only one case was reported this year.

He also appreciated the Prime Minister for his supervision without which he would not be able to get the desired results.

For its part, PM’s focal face in the elimination of polio Aysha Raza Farooq said that polio vaccination was a public campaign in which all parts of society should take part and invite parents to coordinate and save children them from polio.
