Lucknow:
Wicketkeeper-Batsman Prabhsimran Singh scored an explosive 69 of 34 balls, as Punjab Kings traveled to a victory eight wickets over Super Giants Lucknow on the third for the second victory.
Punjab fell below the 172 target that Lucknow set with nearly four overs to make up, and Captain Shreyas Iyer remained undefeated in 52 of 30 balls.
“This is the principle we demanded,” Iyer said.
“The boys really played their roles well. They contributed to their best. And whatever we designed, they executed it to the fullest.”
Playing their first game at the season’s home, Lucknow Super Giants started badly, losing the Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck in the first over the race with Arshdeep Singh.
Marsh’s inaugural partner, Aiden Markram, hit Arshdeep for three limits on his next one, but fell for 28 of 18 shortly after New Zealand Pacer Lockie Ferguson, who was playing his first match for kings.
Captain Rishabh Pant’s Stint on the fold was short-lived for just two trips of five balls, leaving Lucknow to unfold at 35-3 shortly before the end of Powerplay.
Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni stabilized the entries with a 54 collaboration for the fourth wicket, but Fenen eventually fell on the Yuzvendra Chahal spin on the 12th after a fun 44 of 30 balls.
The attacker David Miller, who came to the next, did not last long, falling to his colleague in South African Marco Jansen for 19 of the 18 traditions.
Badoni (41) and Abdul Samad (27), both of whom were rejected by ArshDeep in the latter over the Innings, provided some delayed momentum to Lucknow, promoting them to a total of 171-7.
Skipper Pant admitted that it wasn’t “enough”.
“We were 20-25 short runs,” he said.
“This is part of the game – our first game at home, so it still evaluates the conditions.”
In response, Punjab lost the Priyansh Arya opener cheap for eight runs from nine balls to rotate Digvesh Rathi in the third.
But Lucknow’s bowling attack was only again tested in 11th place when Prabhsimran fell, with the courtesy of a spectacular cattle on the Ravi Bishnoi fence.
Until then, Iyer and Prabhsimran’s Quickfire Partnership of 84 – which were largely fueled by the latter – had taken the race away from Lucknow.
The left hand Batter Nehal Wadhera (43) worked with Iyer to get punjab over the line without further failures.
Rathi (2-30) was the only Bowler Lucknow to be among the wickets. AFP
