Karachi:
Federal Railway Minister Mohammed Hanif Abasi presented the fifth reforms, recovery measures and development projects aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s railways and more efficient, transparent and friendly.
During a visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Abbasi said the RS 15 billion railroads had been recovered, while real estate worth another 50 billion Rs will be recovered this year. He clarified that rail property is unacceptable, although corporate relations with revenue distribution are pursued for better use.
Karachi’s role, Abbasi observed: “Without Karachi, Pakistan’s economy collapses and without the division of Karachi, the railways cease to exist.” He said that the Thar Carbon Transfer Project went national, while the pioneering 480 kilometers of Karachi -rohri is expected until June 2026.
Concerning modernization, the minister said that 155 stations are shifting to solar energy, including 27 in Karachi. So far, 60 stations have exceeded. Wi-Fi is installed at 40 stations and ATM and Wi-Fi services will extend to all major stations. A new CIP lounge at Karachi Station will open on September 22, while railways have been available to the public at affordable prices.
Abbasi said Pakistan’s railways had begun digitizing and declining losses. Cash rescued RS4 billion, while ticket theft previously costs RS1 billion per year. He warned that travelers and free -free tickets would face imprisonment, stressing that “the ministers or the president of the railways would have to buy tickets”.
The minister announced that 11 passenger trains had already been commissioned to external partners, with nine still following within six days. By December, 38 trains will be assigned to external partners. Freight trains are also assigned to external partners to meet the growing demand. Two trains have been delivered to NLC, which is looking for 10 more. Eight railways and 14 schools are also assigned to external partners, although employees will continue to receive free medical care.
Abbasi admitted that the trains were facing flood delays, and fares could not be reduced immediately. He said that the bodies and engines they received eight years ago were so poor quality that they had worn despite the 30 -year life expectancy. Research has been ordered.
