Pakistani strokes Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are running during a match against South Africa played at Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India on October 27, 2023.

Pakistan Cricket President (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has been removed from the decision to exclude the leading Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from the national team for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025.

“First of all, I do not have a 1% role in choosing or falling any. [to select the team]”, Naqvi said while talking to the media in Lahore.

Babar and Rizwan, who represented Pakistan at every multilevel tournament from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United Kingdom (UAE), have been favored in the shortest form of the three -match games against South Africa last December.

The twin eventually failed to reach Pakistan’s team for the upcoming Asian Cup, as former champions shift their focus on young people’s care in front of the next year’s T20 World Cup.

Their snub from the Continental Tournament drew a serious reaction from the fans and was the point of discussion between the cricket species from the announcement of the Pakistan team.

Naqvi, who chaired the meeting of the 80th Board of Directors of the Cricket Council earlier today, reiterated that the national teams were selected exclusively by the Selection Committee and the advisers, refusing to participate in the process.

“Certainly, if they choose a group, so I have full faith in them. They are professionals and I ordered them to make the decisions about value.

“The rest, whatever the lot was available, we polished them and transported and at the will of the Almighty Allah, our effort would be to further explore young talents so that competition can grow.”

When asked about the future of the Wicketkeper Batter Mohammad Rizwan as a Captain of Pakistan’s Odi, Naqvi said: “The selectors will make a decision.

“We will go through it, and after mutual consultation, whatever is decided will be transferred,” he added.

Rizwan, who was appointed captain of the white ball of Pakistan in October 2024, succeeded the Batter Babar Azam star, had a dream to start his term, as the national team won three consecutive bilateral series, including historical triumphants away from Australia.

However, the performance of the National Team under Rizwan’s captain, however, worsened significantly as they lost the tri-nation series against South Africa and New Zealand before being leaving a group stage by ICC Men’s Tropy 2025 champions in home conditions.
