- Sixth case in KP this year.
- 74 cases were recorded nationally in 2024.
Islamabad: Pakistan reported the 12th case of this year’s polio of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu region on Friday, confirmed the Regional Reference Laboratory to eliminate polio at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The 33 -month boy from the Bannu (UC) Union Council (UC) is the sixth polio case reported at KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA this year, according to a press release.
Pakistan is one of the two politicians around the world, along with Afghanistan and the number of cases had declined significantly in the country each year until the recent rise in cases.
Polio is a paralyzed disease without treatment and the completion of the vaccination routine for all children under the age of five provides only high immunity against this terrible disease.
So far this year, Pakistan has reported 6 cases from KP, 4 by Sindh and 1 by Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Despite progress in national campaigns, the southern KP remains a challenge due to access issues and barriers to home vaccination, leaving many non -vaccinated and vulnerable children.
In 2025, three national campaigns – held in February, April and May – have reached over 45 million children, backed by 400,000 first line workers, including 225,000 women’s vaccines, the regional laboratory noted.
He further urged parents to ensure that their children under five will receive polio falls on each campaign.
“The program of elimination of polio urges all parents and carers to ensure that their children receive every dose of polio vaccine. Each dose enhances immunity and provides lifelong protection.
It is advisable to note that in 2024 a total of 74 cases of polio throughout Pakistan were reported, with the recording of 27 cases Balochistan 27, Sindh 23, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 22 and one case from Punjab and Islamabad.
