Pakistani runners from all over the world gave strong performances at the Chicago Marathon in 2025, one of the seven World Marathon, who gathered more than 53,000 participants this year.

The event saw a different group of Pakistani athletes – from those based in Karachi, Lachoris and Islamabad to double nationals and expatriates from the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway and Gulf – who proudly represent the green flag.

The top of the Pakistani ensemble was Syed Ali Hamza, a Pakistan-American-based Villanova of Pennsylvania, who completed the race in two hours, 55 minutes and 14 seconds, making him the fastest Pakistani final. This was followed by another runner of Pakistani origin, Salman Ilyas, dating 2:56:39, and Nizar Nayani, who ended at 2:57:43.

Nayani said he was running under the Pakistani Banner added a special meaning to his achievement.

“The execution of a marathon is a self-challenge, and especially by crossing the finish line and is able to represent as a Pakistani runner does it all is worth it,” he said.

Among those who traveled from Pakistan, one of the country’s leading runners, Faisal Shafi from Karachi, stood out with a time of 3:18:52, making him the fastest runner based in Pakistan this year. Shafi, an experienced marathon runner and already a seven -star final, said he went to the race with a specific strategic pacing strategy and achieved a personal milestone.

“I wanted to experiment with pacing in the second half,” he said. “I was holding my pace in the first 20-25 kilometers and then pushed harder later, this would remain my most unforgettable run because I ran my second half faster than my first, something rare at long distances. I am happy and proud of it.

“I think it went amazing,” Sana said. “I have never experienced a crowd like Chicago. This was an experience we have to remember for decades and I will continue to work hard to get better.”
