Pakistan urges International community to speak up against the violence face by Palestinians

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday urged the international community to speak up against the violence faced by Palestinians.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said Pakistan strongly condemns the attack and stands in solidarity with its Palestinian brothers. “We have to diffuse the situation and move towards de-escalation.”

“Pakistan’s stance on Palestine and Al Aqsa Mosque has been very clear and there is no ambiguity there,” FM said.

“International community can’t stay silent anymore,” the minister said.

“People were praying and they were attacked with stun grenades and rubber bullets. This is against norms of humanity.”

He demanded that the international community should not stay tight-lipped over the brutalities unleashed on innocent Palestinians by Israel.

Turkey also took a clear stance on Baitul Maqqadas, Qureshi said, adding he discussed the issue with his Turkish counterpart over the phone last night.

While talking about the Imran Khan visited to Saudi Arabia, the minister said that ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are stabilising with the march of time.

“Saudi Arabia will dish out employment opportunities to a whopping 10 million people in future, a good chunk of which will be earmarked for the workforce from Pakistan,” he disclosed.

Qureshi said Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister will undertake a visit to Islamabad after Eidul Fitr. Pakistan will get $500 million from Riyadh for various development projects, he revealed.

About Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s visit to Kabul, he said the army chief held important meetings with Afghan officials the other day. “Chances of restoration of peace in the region after yesterday’s meetings seem visible.”

Pakistan will benefit the most from the Afghan peace as there are opportunities for trade between the two neighbouring countries, Qureshi said.
