Islamabad:
Chinese tech giant Huawei has planned to launch a new calling feature under 5G technology to allow telcos to recover revenue lost due to WhatsApp and Facebook calls.
Huawei Pakistan hosted the Digital Week in the federal capital showcasing the latest technologies with a special focus on the introduction of 5G in the country.
The event brought together various sectors and infrastructure developers for greener, sustainable and scalable technologies.
Briefing the media, Huawei officials said that 5G and 5.5G will bring a better communication experience with money.
“Currently, telecom operators have lost revenue due to WhatsApp and Facebook calls. The feature, New Calling, will provide a better user experience to customers with the help of 5G technologies,” they said, adding that it will also help Pakistan’s telcos recover revenue lost due to WhatsApp and Facebook calling.
In response to questions, they said it would be a monetization experience that meant users would have the option of a new calling feature to switch to, but would have to pay a higher price, which would be optional.
They said the new 5G calling feature was available in some parts of China, adding that the feature would provide fast video streaming on different platforms such as YouTube.
They also said that Pakistan will require infrastructure to launch 5G technology. The government of Pakistan is currently working to roll out 5G and has announced that it has spectrum available for this purpose.
It was pointed out by experts that digitization will be through artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and 5G and 5.5G in the near future.
As the world moves towards 5G and 5.5G, various new products are being developed to meet user expectations, such as 3D shields that allow 3D graphics to be displayed on any screen, including mobile devices and laptops.
New products and technology have been developed by many companies, while Huawei has introduced its own innovative support solutions.
Huawei’s Vice President, Government and Public Affairs, Yu Shaoning, said that with a global workforce of over 207,000 in 170+ countries and regions, Huawei has devoted 55% of its workforce to research and development (R&D).
The focus on R&D has led to more than 140,000 active patents for Huawei worldwide, he pointed out. The new solutions include 5.5G ultra-broadband antennas with a range of one kilometer that enable 3G, 4G and 5G services from the same telecom tower.
Other Huawei innovations were related to green solutions and low-emission and carbon-neutral alternatives for tower equipment, enabling them to switch from electricity and diesel generators to solar power.
Experts pointed out that green antennas would help create efficient 5.5G networks and also improve coverage.
Yu said the near future era will have more AI solutions tailored to various industries such as e-commerce, automotive, finance and government. “Our teams are already working on this approach,” he added.
