Pakistan reports the second case of polio of 2025

The second case of polio of 2025 appeared in Pakistan, the Regional Reference Laboratory for the Elimination of Poliolelitis at the National Institute of Health confirmed on Wednesday.

The laboratory confirmed the detection of the Second Wild Polio 1 (WPV1) of 2025, said a press brochure released by the Pakistani Politics Elimination Program.

The laboratory confirmed the fresh case of polio from the Badin, Sindh region on February 12th. While the first case of the year was reported by Dera Ismail Khan at South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In 2024, a total of 74 cases of polio were reported. Of these, 27 were from Balochistan, 22 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23 by Sindh, and one from Punjab and Islamabad.

“Poliolenelitis is a paralyzed disease that has no cure.

According to the Pakistani polio elimination program, it is conducting multiple mass vaccination units in one year, bringing the vaccine to children on their backyard, while the extensive immunization program provides vaccinations for 12 childhood diseases free of charge to the health facilities.

“It is important for parents to ensure vaccination for all their children under five to keep them protected,” he said.

The first national polio campaign of 2025 was successfully completed, with 99% of the goals achieved throughout the country. The campaign was held from February 3 to 9.

During this campaign, more than 45 million children were granted the polio vaccine.

In each campaign, the program stated that it ensures that children under the age of five receive political drops to protect them from the misleading effects of polio.

It is important to note that Pakistan is one of the two political countries around the world, along with Afghanistan and the number of cases had declined significantly in the country each year until the recent rise in cases.

Pakistan’s polio elimination program explains that polio is a “paralytic” disease with “no cure” and “completing the usual vaccination for all children under five years” simply provides them with “high immunity against this terrible disease”.
