The World Championships Legends (WCL) took a dramatic shift, as India champions refused to play against the Pakistan champions in the semifinals due to the escalation of tensions between the two neighboring countries, allowing Pakistan to proceed.
The first semifinal of the tournament was scheduled for Pakistani champions and India champions on July 31 in Birmingham.
However, the match was canceled, with Pakistan to move on to the final, where it will face either South Africa or Australia in the title conflict to be played on Saturday, August 2nd.
In a statement issued to X, the WCL administration confirmed on Wednesday’s India decision to retire from the semifinals.
“I have always believed in the power of sport to inspire and bring positive changes to the world,” the statement said. “However, public emotion must always be respected – in the end, what we do is for our audience,” he added.
Concerning India’s decision to retire, the organizers said: “We respect the decision of the Indian champions to retire from the semifinals and also respect the readiness of the Pakistani champions to compete.”

“Given all the factors, the fight between Indian champions and Pakistan champions has been revoked,” the statement said, confirming that the Pakistan champions would proceed with the final.
This action was not unexpected, as India champions had earlier on July 20 refused to play Pakistan in the event match of the event, which had also led to cancellation.
The second edition of the Cricket Board (ECB) championship that came into force on July 18 began on July 18 at Edgbaston. Pakistan’s team, led by Shahid Afridi, has former stars such as Younis Khan, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz and Kamran Akmal.
Relations between the two countries remain strained. Following a terrorist attack on Pahalgam in April, political and public feeling further deteriorated, briefly affecting both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan of Super League (PSL).

India is not involved in bilateral sports ties with Pakistan, and the cricket races between the two sides are now confined to a World ICC tournament such as the World Cup and Trophy Champions.
A hybrid model of hospitality was introduced during this year’s Trophy Champions, where India played its Games in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament took place in Pakistan.
A similar arrangement is designed for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, with Pakistan playing all his Colombo matches, as India and Sri Lanka host the event.
More recently, the uncertainty surrounding the Asian Men’s Cup has been resolved after India agreed to participate in the tournament scheduled for September in T20 format, with the UAE defining as a host.
