Islamabad: As part of its global climate commitments, Pakistan intends to increase the construction of electric vehicles (EVS) to 2.2 million units in the next five years, mainly electric motorcycles. However, the government is using new contributions for conventional car buyers to pay for these ambitious motives, which fell to lawmakers outside the guard on Wednesday, The news reported.

During its meeting, the Standing Committee on the Funding of the National Assembly was informed that a three -level levy structure would be implemented: 1% for new car purchases up to 1300cc, 2% for them between 1301 and 1800cc and 3% for those above 1800cc. When members of the committee learned that these charges were left out of the official funding bill of 2025-2026, they were overwhelmed.

“The detail of the levy is missing from the bill,” said NA’s body president Naveed Qamar. In which, an employee of the Ministry of Law replied that it was a “omission”.

The Commission also approved the government’s proposal to impose a 10% sales tax on solar equipment, in a policy reversal that the President of the Qamar Commission says it comes from the National Assembly and not the Senate. “It was our recommendation, not the Senate,” Qamar said, despite previous efforts to protect renewable energy sources from taxation.

The President of the Federal Revenue Council (FBR), Rashid Langrial, said the sales tax will only be implemented as soon as it is approved by parliament. He added that efforts are also under way to expand the net sales tax-non-registered individuals will be forced to register or risk their bank accounts to be frozen. “A non -registered person will not be able to handle a bank account,” he warned. Once registered, the account will be restored within 48 hours.

Langrial said FBR would detect unattended companies using data such as electricity consumption and income tax deposits, starting with industrial units, especially in Karachi.

In a parallel effort to achieve the circular debt of the increase in the increase, the power address said that the RS1,275 trillions are borrowed from commercial banks to 0.9% below the percentage offered by the Karachi (KIBOR) thesis. The funds will be used to withdraw the obligations of the Independent Energy Producer (IPPS) and the Energy Participation Company over a six -year period and the 683 billion Rs will immediately cover the PHC charges, with the RS323 billion.

This retirement and debt funding will be met through an increase in RS3.23/Unit Debt Service (DSS) from consumers in their accounts – free Lifeline electricity consumers. “This is a situation of the IMF and we must fulfill it,” said the secretary of power.

In addition, oil department officials said that an RS2.5 per liter of oil on oil products will begin on July 1, doubled the RS5 next year. The levy will extend to the furnace oil, which is still used in IPPS plants, despite the fact that gradually from public installations. The oil levy is currently in RS77 per liter of gasoline and RS78 per liter in diesel and the government plans to increase the ceiling to RS90 per liter.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, addressed to the Commission, has steadily stated that “the era of tax exemptions and shocks is over.” He emphasized the need to bring more people to the tax net, stressing the imposition of leniency. “We must now ensure compliance, not continue to offer carrots,” he concluded.
