Pakistan’s men’s hockey team has accepted an invitation to compete in the Pro League 2025-26, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed on Thursday.
Green shirts were officially invited by the top body to participate in the “League of the Best” after the disconnection of the Hockey New Zealand from the nine teams tournament, despite winning the Fih Nations Cup earlier this year in Malaysia.
The PHF was initially given a deadline on August 12 to confirm the participation of the team’s national team, but the federation requested an extension until August 20, as it awaits financial support from the government.
The Federation is then issued by RS250M for the event on Wednesday, leading to it, confirming the participation of its men’s team the next day.
“The International Hockey Federation (FIH) can confirm that Pakistan’s men’s hockey team, nickname the green shirts, has accepted the invitation to participate in the upcoming Fih Hockey Pro League 2025-26 era,” Apex Body said in a statement.
Pakistan will participate in Archbishop India, along with Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain in the upcoming seventh edition of the tournament, replacing Ireland, which were relegated after the final.
The participation of green shirts in the tournament meant that they would also end against traditional India opponents, who escaped relegation last season, as they ended just above the bottom of Ireland.
Fih Tayyab Ikram president expressed his pleasure to add Pakistan to the Pro League, stating that it would be a major boost for the rich history team and enhance the tournament’s television position.
“Great to see Pakistan back in a elite competition-this is a truly aggressive milestone for world hockey,” Ikram said in a FIH statement.
“The signs of their return not only the return of a team with such a rich and historical story, but also an exciting impulse to the visibility and range of the Fih Hockey Pro League. I can already predict an enhanced visibility of the Pro League with the participation of Pakistan.
“Congratulations to the Pakistani men’s team for the qualifying qualifying FIH Hockey Cup and winning their place in the” League of the Best “for the first time.
For the Unversed, Pakistan was forced to participate in the inaugural version of the Fih Pro League in 2019, but has drawn the first three games scheduled for Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, citing “inevitable conditions” that led to their suspension.
