Dubai:
The Cricket International Council (ICC) has finalized the course of cricket qualifications at the 2028 Olympics and the first indications suggest that Pakistan is unlikely to secure a place in men, the British media said on Wednesday.
According to a report, the ICC, after discussions during the Annual General Assembly in Singapore, chose a regional form of qualifications for the identification of the participating groups.
The men’s cricket competition in LA 2028 will include six teams, one of which is automatically intended for the hosts, the United States.
According to the proposed model, the highest group of each continent will meet the conditions, ensuring representation from all areas.
This means that India is expected to claim the point of Asia, while Australia (Oceania), South Africa (Africa) and Great Britain (Europe) will automatically qualify. With these distributions, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand will lose their immediate qualifications.
Pakistan and New Zealand are unhappy with the decision of the ICC, but while it has not yet been ratified by the Board of Directors, it is unlikely to be reversed.
The International Olympic Committee (ILO) also promoted the regional qualifications to secure global representation and promote Cricket’s international appeal.
This form, however, leaves only one point open after India, Australia, South Africa, Great Britain and the US have confirmed their positions.
The ICC will decide how the sixth and final position will be awarded. There is a guess that he could go to a representative team from the Caribbean islands, similar to the regulation during the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the Barbados represented the area.
The men and women’s cricket tournaments in LA 2028 will be played in the T20 format.
The ICC has already confirmed that both competitions will be held from July 12 to July 29, 2028, with the women’s metal race scheduled for July 20 and the men’s final on July 29th. The icc
