Amarjeet Singh Daulat, a former head of the India Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), acknowledged that the deadly April 22 attack on Pahalgam, located in Indian illegal occupied masculine and Kassmir (Iiojk), was the result of Indian intelligence services. The attack, which killed 26 people, has since escalated the tensions between India and Pakistan.
In an interview with the BBC, Daulat noted that despite current tense relationships, there are alternative methods to tackle the situation, such as Backchannel diplomacy. He referred to comments by former US President Donald Trump, who suggested that India and Pakistan have been in conflict for years and will manage their own issues.
Concerning the possibility of Pakistan’s participation, Daulat expressed that the presentation of evidence in the international community would strengthen India’s position. He said: “Yes, if this is done, it would be good.”
The attack has led to significant diplomatic implications. India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross -border terrorism, leading to the suspension of the Treaty on Indus Waters, the deportation of Pakistani diplomas and the closure of the border.
In response, Pakistan denied allegations and suspended the Simla deal, limited trade and closed its airspace. The border skirmishes between Indian and Pakistani forces have been reported along the control line.
Daulat stressed that while surgical strikes can be taken into account, the concept of full -scale war is counterproductive. He said: “War is the last bad choice”, and warned against gradual tensions in a nuclear conflict.
Said: “If a Balakot press is necessary, it should be done.
Answering a question about whether the Pahalgam incident was a failure of security or intelligence, the former Raw leader said: “What happened to Pahalgam was due to the failure of security services because there was no security.”
He also added: “When we talk about information failures, we must remember that in Kashmir, any important information will come from Kashmir themselves. It is therefore very important to keep the cashmere on our part.”
He claimed: “Kashmir does not accuse the Pahalgam attack. Yes, some local people may be involved, but in most cases, the interference came from the border.”
Daulat concluded that while the situation is tense, it is not beyond resolution. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation to address underlying issues and prevent further escalation.
