OGRA notifies price reduction per kg of LPG by Rs 5.88

OGRA notifies price reduction per kg of LPG by Rs 5.88

Islamabad:

The government has reduced LPG price by Rs 5.88 per kg. The new prices will take effect from November 1, 2025.

According to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Authority’s notification, the price of a domestic 11.8 kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs 69.44.

After the revision, the new price for the domestic cylinder has been fixed at Rs 2,378.89, up from Rs 2,448.33 in October.

The adjustment comes as part of OGRA’s monthly price review, reflecting changes in international market trends and domestic distribution costs.

Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the initiation of the process to allow regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) connections to domestic consumers, responding to a longstanding public demand for restoration of domestic gas supply.

The government had imposed a ban on new gas connections in 2021, citing the rapid depletion of reserves across the country. The restriction has forced consumers to switch from natural gas to alternative and often more expensive sources of fuel for cooking and heating.

During 2022, when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition led by Shehbaz took office, the government came under intense public pressure to resume gas connections.

According to the prime minister, availability of natural gas was a major challenge at that time, but later funds were released and infrastructure was put in place, enabling the supply of RLNG to a large number of pending applicants.

The announcement came in the wake of recent discoveries of new oil and gas reserves in the country. Last month, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) reported a “significant discovery” of oil and gas in the eastern district of Attock.

In February, Mari Energies, a domestic exploration company, discovered fresh hydrocarbon reserves in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with initial tests showing a flow of 12.96 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and about 20 barrels per day (bbl/d) of condensate.
