Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority revised fuel prices sharply upward for July 22, raising petrol by Rs4.93 per litre to Rs320.73 and high-speed diesel by Rs7.15 per litre to Rs367.21 — the largest single-day increase since the daily pricing mechanism came into force on July 18 (ARY News; Pakistan Observer; Daily Pakistan).
The revision reverses July 21’s modest petrol reduction of Rs0.35, pushing the rate Rs4.58 above its July 21 level. Diesel, which has risen in every single revision since the mechanism launched, climbs to Rs367.21 — up Rs39.00 from the day the daily system came into force.

Inflation and cost-of-living impact
The July 22 hike is the first since the mechanism launched that has pushed petrol decisively above its pre-mechanism level and well above the psychological Rs320 mark. High-speed diesel, which drives freight, agriculture and industrial energy costs, is now Rs39 per litre more expensive than it was four days ago — a 12 percent increase in four days of the daily mechanism.
Transport operators and freight companies say the consecutive diesel hikes have already triggered surcharges on inter-city cargo. Vegetable and food commodity prices in Lahore and Karachi markets edged upward on Tuesday, and sector analysts expect a full pass-through to food inflation within 48–72 hours.
The daily mechanism, endorsed by the IMF as part of Pakistan’s fiscal consolidation programme, is designed to reflect international oil prices without political delay. But in its first week of operation it has exposed Pakistani consumers to the full volatility of a global oil market still being shaped by the ongoing US-Iran conflict. When Brent softens — as it did briefly on July 21 on mediation hopes — Pakistani prices edge down. When Brent firms, as happened on July 22 when ceasefire hopes receded, the pass-through arrives the next morning.
OGRA has indicated no change to the daily revision cycle and will continue to announce next-day prices each evening based on the average of the preceding seven days of international crude prices and the prevailing exchange rate.
