Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Thursday that as a result of dedicated national campaigns against polio, a case of polio in the country had not been reported in the country since February 10.

Chairing a meeting of a review on the elimination of polio, the prime minister praised the efforts of the relevant government institutions, international organizations and partners to make Pakistan without polio.

He directed the competent authorities to ensure the awareness and mobilization of the community on the campaign against polio across the country.

“It should be ensured that every child under the age of five is administered the polio vaccine during the campaign against polio from April 21,” he added.

He stressed that in addition to the campaign, routine immunization should also be fully ensured to protect against other dangerous diseases.

“Despite the provocative conditions, workers involved in the campaign against polio play a primary role in the struggle against this disease,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said, adding that the whole nation, including themselves, was proud of themselves.

During the meeting, the prime minister was informed of the upcoming anti-political campaign from April 21 to April 27, during which 4.5 million children will be administered to the polio vaccine.

A total of 415,000 workers in polio will participate in this national campaign. The meeting was further informed that, according to the Prime Minister’s instructions, the ratification of the third party campaign will be completed from April 28 to April 30.

In addition, monitoring the cold chain of campaigns against polio is monitored under a digital system.

Minister of National Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Polio Ayesha Raza Farooq, Health Minister of Sindh Dr Azra Fazal, Heads of Secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Other senior employees of the meeting.

Two days ago, Kamal urged the public to reject unfounded insanity about polio vaccine, saying that while diseases such as cancer have treatment options, polio has no treatment and can only be avoided through early immunization, The news reported.

The minister noted that Pakistan remains one of the only two countries of the world, along with Afghanistan, where polio is continuing to circulate.

“We have mentioned six cases of polio so far this year. Many sewage samples in various areas still have a positive test for polio,” he said.

He stressed that the upcoming anti-political move, scheduled for April 21 to April 27, will vaccinate over 45 million children across the country. “More than 400,000 trained frontline workers will go from door to door to manage the oral drops of polio. The government will ensure their safety,” Kamal assured.

It rejects the common myth that vaccination of polio has religious effects or causes damage.

Kamal confirmed that this year’s campaign will be synchronized with Afghanistan’s efforts, maximizing the impact on both borders. “For the first time this year, Pakistan and Afghanistan will start and end the campaign together. This is an important move.”
